Chicago Red Cross Receives $15,000 from Lake Zurich Fundraiser

CHICAGO – The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago local disaster fund received $15,000 from the Lake Zurich business community as a result of a fundraiser held during December 2003. Richard Baader, a member of the Chicago Red Cross Board of Directors, owner of Lake Zurich’s Raceway Car Wash and organizer of the fundraiser, stopped by the Chicago Red Cross headquarters to drop off the check. Baader donated all of his car wash’s December proceeds while over 30 Lake Zurich area businesses set up canisters throughout the month to collect change for the Chicago Red Cross.

“As an active volunteer, I’m aware of the organization’s valuable work and its critical need for donations,” said Baader. “I am proud to see the level of support that was provided by the local businesses and residents.  I hope we can make this an annual event.”

In addition to Raceway Car Wash, the following Lake Zurich business groups also pitched in to raise money for the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago: the Village Square Shopping Center, Lakeview Plaza Shopping Center, Deerpath Court Shopping Center, Graham C Stores which includes Phillips 66 gas stations, and the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce.

“We respond to an average of three to four home fires a day, and it’s critical that we have the necessary disaster relief funds available to be able to provide those affected with assistance,” said William Braden, CEO of the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago. “It’s a great thing to see a community such as Lake Zurich band together to help the Chicago Red Cross continue to fulfill its mission.”
